A legal case has arisen in Japan, asserting that questioning individuals based on their race or nationality during police questioning constitutes discrimination.

Three foreign men living in Japan are being taken to court because they were repeatedly questioned by police on duty because of their race or skin color. One of the three is Matthew, 53, from India, who has lived in Japan for more than 20 years. He was stopped and questioned by the police at least twice in one day. Such discriminatory interrogations are known as "racial filing" and have become an international problem.
