A metal pencil that can write 16 km without sharpening is released in Japan.

Japanese stationery manufacturer Sunstar Stationery will release "metacil," a pencil with a metal lead, in late June. The price is 990 yen ($9.00).

A metacil is a pencil with a metal lead (metal pencil). It can write like a normal pencil and erase with an eraser. The lead is a special alloy containing graphite, and when writing, the graphite and alloy particles adhere to the paper by friction to form characters. The density is about the same as that of a 2H pencil, and the density varies depending on the type of paper.

The lead is significantly less worn, allowing the user to write the equivalent of approximately 16 km without sharpening. The company claims that it is ideal for writing for long periods of time or writing quickly, and that the tip of the lead can be used evenly to maintain the sharpness of the lead. Written characters can be erased with an eraser. It does not bleed through with water or water-based markers and can be used for drafting watercolor paintings and illustrations. The shaft is also octagonal metal and matte in color. It weighs 14g.

日本にっぽんの文具ぶんぐメーカー、サンスター文具ぶんぐは、金属きんぞく芯しんの鉛筆えんぴつ「metacil」を6月がつ下旬げじゅんに発売はつばいする。価格かかくは990円えん。

メタシルとは、芯しんが金属きんぞく製せいの鉛筆えんぴつ（メタルペンシル）のことです。普通ふつうの鉛筆えんぴつと同おなじように書かくことができ、消けしゴムで消けすことができます。芯しんは黒鉛こくえんを含ふくむ特殊とくしゅ合金ごうきんで、書かくと黒鉛こくえんと合金ごうきんの粒子りゅうしが摩擦まさつで紙かみに付着ふちゃくし、文字もじができる。濃こさは2Hの鉛筆えんぴつとほぼ同どうじで、紙かみの種類しゅるいによって濃こさが異ことなる。

これまでの金属きんぞく鉛筆えんぴつと比くらべ芯しんの摩耗まもうが大幅おおはばに少すくななくなり、約やく16km相当そうとうの筆記ひっきを研とがずに行おこなえるようになったという。長時間ちょうじかんの筆記ひっきや早はや書がきに最適さいてきで、芯しんの先端せんたんを均一きんいつに使用しようすることで切れ味きれあじを維持いじできるとしている。書かいた文字もじは消けしゴムで消けすことができる。水みずや水性すいせいマーカーでもにじまないので、水彩すいさい画がやイラストの下書したがきにも使つかえる。軸じくは八角形はっかっけいの金属きんぞく製せいで、色いろはマットな質感しつかん。重おもさは14g。
