For instance, a seafood bowl at Sushi Noz costs $60, while a similar dish in Japan can be enjoyed for $10 to $20. Additionally, the average cost per person at Sushi Noz is around $550, whereas at high-end sushi restaurants in Japan, it ranges from $150 to $200.
The approximately threefold price difference between sushi restaurants in NY and Japan is attributed to the depreciation of the yen and inflation in NY. Moreover, to offer authentic Japanese sushi, Sushi Noz airfreights most of its ingredients directly from Japan, resulting in higher procurement costs compared to other restaurants. Therefore, it's not that Sushi Noz is charging excessively high prices, but the stark price difference between the U.S. and Japan is quite shocking to the Japanese.
