Tokyo's population increased by about 70,000

According to a report compiled by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, the population of Tokyo increased by 68,000 last year to 14.1 million. In Japan, the population tends to gather in metropolitan areas centering on Tokyo, and outside of Tokyo, Kanagawa and Osaka prefectures have also seen population increases.
In response, the Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications expressed a sense of crisis, saying, "If the regions decline, the strength of Japan as a whole, including Tokyo, will decrease.
